It's 6:30am and the cottage is filled with chatter. I slowly open one eye, then the other. I hold back my dislike of mornings because this day is different. It's a new start. A start that could lead to a better understanding of a disease that to be honest, sucks.
You see, today we come together as one. We'll share stories of a beast that has impacted our lives and those around us as we walk/run to raise awareness of it's existence.
The disease, Multiple Sclerosis. The stories, gut-wrenching.
Several years back my brother and niece were diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. When their friends were told of the diagnoses they took action by organizing a 5K walk/run event as a way to raise money for research and awareness of the disease.
This was the second event, of many to come, that has brought my family closer to others through a shared passion. The passion of helping others.
As I wipe the tears from my face I am grateful. Grateful there are people who truly care in a world that can appear so cold.
The journey is long, but the beast shall be tamed.
